About Me

I’m driven by a love for learning new technologies and constantly expanding my knowledge. There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking what I’ve learned and using it to create solutions that make life smoother—both for me and for those around me. I’m all about efficiency, which is why I focus on building on what I already know rather than reinventing the wheel.

I was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1962, and had a pretty typical childhood—nothing too dramatic, but definitely full of good memories. After finishing up at Pakuranga College, I jumped straight into the workforce, taking on a mix of manual jobs, from lathe operator to pill maker, and even fork-hoist driver. Little did I know, my true break was just around the corner.

The big change came when I took a leap and traveled to London. There, I landed an office admin contract at BP’s telephony department, and that’s when my IT journey really took off. My manager quickly saw my knack for tech and offered me a Systems Administrator role, where I’d be responsible for the telephone call logging system. The job required me to dive into UNIX (Solaris) and Informix databases, and with BP’s training, I was hooked on the world of IT.

Over the years, I’ve bounced back and forth between the UK and New Zealand, working with top companies like Thomson Global Markets, Fujitsu, and Registers of Scotland. Along the way, I’ve faced some pretty intense challenges, but each one has deepened my understanding of the tech I work with. For the last 20 years, I’ve been with a global ERP software developer, traveling across the Asia Pacific region to install, upgrade, and troubleshoot software.

I’ve moved away from my UNIX and Informix roots and now focus primarily on Microsoft systems—Windows Servers, Active Directory, IIS, LDAP—and I’ve also been sharpening my skills as a Microsoft DBA.

Now, I’m back in New Zealand, living with my wife and daughters. While I love traveling, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of coming home. Outside of work, you’ll find me on the golf course, diving into the deep blue on a scuba adventure, or getting lost in a good book. Though I no longer play rugby, I still enjoy watching the game and reliving the action.
